The client

Who is Buckstop?

Buckstop is a DC-based, renewable energy asset intelligence company helping insurers, lenders, asset owners and other stakeholders understand the value and risk of renewable energy assets. Its platform brings data, valuation methodology and market intelligence together to support decisions across the asset lifecycle, from underwriting and financing to appraisal, recovery and decommissioning.

The challenge

Why Buckstop
came to Groie

Buckstop had a strong product, a bigger vision, and solid people behind it. What it needed was a marketing foundation built from the ground up.

The positioning needed to clearly communicate what Buckstop did and why it mattered. The website needed to speak to multiple buyer groups. And there was no consistent inbound system turning Buckstop’s category expertise into visibility, demand, and qualified conversations.

The mandate for Groie was clear: build the foundation first, then build a system that could scale.

The approach

What we did

1.

Rebuilt the positioning and messaging

We started with positioning and messaging workshops with the Buckstop team to understand the product, buyers, use cases, sales conversations and category. We listened to their sales calls, audited their previous positioning and analyzed where they were falling short.

From there, we rebuilt the messaging architecture around what Buckstop solves, who it solves it for and why its approach is different.

2.

Rebuilt the website around the buyer journey

The new messaging became the foundation for a complete website revamp. We reworked the site architecture, UX, copy and conversion paths around Buckstop's different audiences and use cases, creating dedicated pages for its solutions, capabilities and methodology.

The website stopped being a company brochure and became the centre of Buckstop's inbound system.

3.

Built the inbound engine from scratch

Next came search.

We built Buckstop's SEO and content strategy around the actual questions its buyers were searching for, from renewable energy asset valuation and residual value to insurance, appraisal, decommissioning and recovery.

Technical SEO, search-led content, solution pages, internal linking and conversion paths worked as one system rather than isolated marketing activities. Within 32 days, Buckstop received its first inbound lead.

Inbound continued to compound from there, moving from roughly 1–2 leads per month to 34 inbound leads in a single month.

Built the distribution and nurture layer

Getting discovered was only one part of the job. Groie built the system around that demand through:

Email nurture • Cold database outreach • Webinars • Organic social • Founder-led content • Video marketing • Newsletters

This gave Buckstop multiple ways to educate prospects, stay visible across longer buying cycles and bring existing demand back into the funnel.

Inbound Lead Growth
34

inbound leads in a single month

From 1–2 inbound leads per month to 34 in a single month. And the first inbound lead arrived just 32 days after Groie began building the inbound engine.

“Groie has a very different way of approaching marketing. The team is highly technical, incredibly responsive and understands how all the pieces need to work together. They know what they're doing, and working with them has been great.”

“Buckstop is a good example of why we don't start with ‘let's do more marketing.’ We started by fixing the foundation: who are we selling to, what are we actually saying, and does the website make that obvious?Once that was right, we built everything around it. Search, content, nurture, social, founder-led content, webinars, outbound and video. The 880% organic growth is great. But for me, the more important number is 34 inbound leads in a month. Traffic only matters when the right people start raising their hands.”

A renewed partnership

What’s next?

Buckstop is one of the clients that renewed with Groie after the first engagement ended. As Buckstop’s product evolved, the marketing needed to scale with it.

The next phase is focused on content amplification, spider-web distribution, expanding the channels generating MQLs and SQLs, and adding paid marketing as another layer of lead generation.

  • Amplify the expertise
    Content amplification & spider-web distribution
  • Expand qualified demand
More channels generating MQLs and SQLs
  • Add another growth layer
    Paid marketing for lead generation
The foundation is built. Now, the focus is on getting Buckstop in front of more of the right buyers, across more channels, more consistently.
